Sidi Jmour Beach (Djerba)
A wild and preserved beach on the west coast of Djerba, far from the tourist crowds.
History of the place
Sidi Jmour is a haven of peace, a well-kept secret by the Djerbians. The beach is named after the saint whose small, solitary white mosque watches over the waves. It is a place of pilgrimage for fishermen who come to seek blessing ("baraka") before going to sea. The place is so authentic and timeless that it served as a setting for scenes from Star Wars ("Mos Espa"). Here, there are no deckchairs or umbrellas, just fine sand, the sound of the waves and an incredible feeling of being at the end of the world.
