Ksar Ouled Soltane

History of the place

Located near Tataouine, Ksar Ouled Soltane is a magnificent example of the 'ksour' (plural of ksar) of southern Tunisia. This collective granary, dating from the 15th century, is composed of 'ghorfas', storage cells superimposed on several floors (up to four, which is rare). Its particularity is to have two courtyards, testifying to its expansion over time. The whole, of a dazzling whiteness under the desert sun, is of a striking architectural beauty. This ksar also served as a backdrop for the planet Tatooine in the Star Wars saga.
