Ghazi Moustapha Fort (Borj El Kebir), Djerba

History of the place

Built in the 15th century on the ruins of a Roman fort, the Borj El Kebir was enlarged and reinforced by the Ottoman corsair Dragut in the 16th century. It was the scene of the infamous 'Battle of Djerba'. The visit allows you to walk along the ramparts, admire the view of the port and the sea, and imagine the battles that took place there. A small museum inside traces the history of the fort and the island.
